Song #21: Satanic Verses-The Flatlinerz

In 1994, Horrorcore was an extreme reaction to gangster rap, and The Flatlinerz were one of the best. They came upon their horror movie meets hip-hop theme rather naturally. They would hang out together in Brooklyn graveyards since that was an escape from their heavily policed neighborhoods, and as they started experimenting with rhymes, their environment became an inspiration. Only released one album; U. S. A. standing for Under Satan’s Authority is a masterpiece. It was so ahead of its time that listening to it now, it doesn’t seem over twenty years old. They are extremely underappreciated and worth rediscovering. Members: Tempest, Redrum, and Gravedigger got back together in 2014 and have recently performed live and released an EP.
