Song #3: Zombie

This was my first, and hopefully only, typo on this year’s mix. It is Gene Kardos Orchestra, not Kardos, Gene, & Orchestra. You can fix that in the files that you downloaded if you are as picky as I am; I already did in the blog post.

Gene Kardos, pictured above with his orchestra (second from the right, in the middle row), played the alto saxophone. This band formed in 1931 and lasted until 1938.

This jazz 78 was recorded in 1934 and was based on the Bela Lugosi classic film White Zombie. This is one of Bela Lugosi’s best, and considered by many to be the first zombie movie. With a name like Murder Legendre, what did they expect from Bela’s character. This was the film that inspired the name of Rob Zombie’s band. It is worth checking out if you have never seen it.
